Python Weekly: F-Strings & Asyncio

Website: https://www.meetup.com/PyHawaii-Python-Users-Group/events/cnhwbryzmbgb/

We generally host multiple topics at our 1st event of the month! This time we will be diving into topics such as:

• F-strings: Have you ever struggled to get your output to look *just right*? Or have you just wanted to take some complexity out of constructing big strings out of smaller pieces? f-strings were in introduced in Python 3.6 to make string formatting easier than the %-strings and string.format() methods from earlier versions. Learn how to make all your output perfect in this introductory lesson on f-strings.

• Asyncio: When you load something into your computer that has to wait on a remote machine, your application grinds to a halt until the response is received. Sometimes your computer appears frozen for several seconds while simply waiting on data to come back. For this and many other scenarios, async programming has become the go-to paradigm to avoid the complexity and confusion often associated with learning multi threading (the other major way to solve these problems). This lesson will provide a crash course in asyncio, Python’s built-in library for asynchronous programming, and will include a demo receiving data from a high-volume remote server while still being responsive to other tasks the program is trying to achieve.

• An awesome Puzzle.

As always, if you can’t make it, please cancel your RSVP, so folks on the wait list can join us. We hope to see you all on Wednesday!

Please join us at PyHawaii to:

• Learn Python, tools, techniques, frameworks and programming art and science
• Meet local Pythonistas (grow your network)
• Find cool projects to work on
• Solve puzzles
• Hang out
• Have tons of fun in the process!
